Dear Dallas County Voter:
I am honored to have the privilege to serve as your District Clerk. When I campaigned for the office in 2006, I promised to move the office into the 21st Century by getting stalled projects moving and new projects started.
I am proud to say that I have kept that promise.
Not since the 1950s have the initiatives of my office been as widely covered by state and local media. This website contains just a few links to that coverage which I hope you will give you a better idea of the work this office has been doing under my leadership.
My signature initiative since taking office has been the District Clerk's Digital Courts Project. Prior to my taking office in 2007, the Dallas County District Clerk was the only urban clerk's office in Texas without electronic court records. Since that time we have completed the digitization of more than 10 million records and created five new all electronic courts. The Digital Courts Project will allow Dallas County taxpayers to realize the same cost savings that have been achieved from digital conversion of the federal and other state courts.
I also promised in 2006 to fight for you, the Dallas County taxpayer. After only 6 months in office, I identified more than $150,000 in redundant positions which I asked the commissioners court to cut. Over the course of my first four years in office, I have recognized total savings of $989,982. I also helped close the FY 2011 Dallas County budget shortfall by eliminating $1.3 million in costs payable out of general revenue. And by digitizing the District Courts and eliminating paper records, I will realize a savings of $880,000 in paper storage costs annually.
I have also been recognized as an outspoken advocate for transparency and accountability in Dallas County government.
In fact that same leadership was recognized with a special "toast" on Thanksgiving Day by the Dallas Morning News:
To... District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons, for showing leadership and selflessness in Dallas County's tough budget year. Would that other top officials would follow their lead.
I am running for reelection to the office of Dallas County District Clerk on Tuesday, November 2. I have worked hard to make a difference in Dallas County government and I would be honored to have your support for another four year term.
Sincerely,
Gary Fitzsimmons
